Theatre Theory – Universidade de São Paulo – ECA USP
The Transformation of the theatrical space since the Adolphe Appia’s works.
Abstract
This project represents a reflection upon the scenic theories based on Adolphe Appia’s works. From the analysis of his life and papers, it intends to understand his influence in the XX century theater.
It also tries to show how Appia’s ideas turn the traditional stage and theater, known as “Italian Theater”, in a new place, and his influence in the scenic illumination and visual effects. At last, it tries to establish a relationship between the work and ideas of Appia and the contemporary Brazilian theater group called Teatro da Vertigem and his way of using the city as stage.
